Encourage a friend to sign-up for one of these sessions and be entered in our raffle for a free personal training session and an Ignite! yoga mat. (If you haven't run a 5k yet, refer YOURSELF and join us for 13 weeks of fun and fitness.)

On the road

How about walking?

I've had many questions lately about walking groups. I'm still not sure how to make this work best for everyone, so I've created a survey to try and figure it out.

If you are interested in joining a walking group (in Wetumpka), please answer my brief survey (located here ). If you know of others who would like this service, please get them to answer as well!

Coach's Corner!

Fall is almost here!
As the weather cools, running becomes easier and longer runs feel much easier!
  • If you've laid off a lot this summer, start off easy. Don't try and do what you did on your last run three months ago. Cut back and rebuild to where you want to be.
  • Don't forget hydrate and keep using sunscreen - these things don't change in fall and even winter running!
  • If you start to run longer than 1 hour, eat about 150 calories per hour during your run (gels, sports beans, power bars are good choices).
  • Dress in layers in cool weather to ensure that you don't overheat on long runs.
  • Remember that it starts getting dark earlier - plan your run for safe and lighted locations if you run at twilight.
Enjoy your fall runs! If you need help, contact Jeanne and join Run Ignited! for personal training plans or join "Back on the Road" to enjoy weekly group runs.

Meet Liz! Running Start blogger Extraordinaire!

Liz is a black belt in karate and an exerciser from way back. BUT, every time she's tried to run, she hasn't succeeded. SO, she decided a couple of months ago to run with a running coach. Living in Ohio, without being able to join a Season to Run class, Liz opted for Ignite!'s Running Start program. Online personalized coaching is taking her through a program tailored just for her.

Liz suffered an injury to her ankle in August and got sidelined for a few weeks. After stepping back in her program for a few weeks, she's back on track. Read about her running experience in her blog

Upcoming Run Ignited Events:

Run Ignited Group Trail Run
Friday, September 25th 5:30 PM
Two Mile Trail Run on Swayback Trail

Let's get back to some group runs. Join us for a short run on Swayback. We'll be staying on the initial section of the trail, so it won't be too tough.

This session is open to all, so invite a friend. There is a $3.00 charge for anyone NOT currently enrolled in the Run Ignited! monthly program.

Run Ignited October Track Run
Monday, October 12th 6:30 PM
Wetumpka Middle School Track

Come learn how to use the track for an interval speed workout. Have you read a speed workout and been confused about what all the abbreviations mean (4x400@10k/2min@recovery???? What the heck does that mean!) Let me show you how to use the track and what interval workouts are all about.

This run is appropriate for anyone who has completed the Season to Run program or who regularly runs 3 miles. There is a $3.00 charge for anyone NOT currently enrolled in the Run Ignited! monthly program.

In the gym:

Exercise classes with Ignite!

Twice a week, we meet for a toning and aerobic session. If working out by yourself doesn't cut it for you, come join our groups! Six more weeks are left in this session and you can join us for just $35.00. Classes meet at First Baptist Church at 8:45 AM and 12 noon on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

On the trail:

On October 3rd, over 200 participants will run, bike, boulder, rappel, paddle, swim, crawl and jump their way from the Swayback trailhead to Gold Star Park in the 7th annual Coosa River Challenge. Come out and watch the amazing athletes somewhere along the way.

There are volunteer opportunities throughout the race that will give you a chance to see what this race is all about. Contact Jeanne at 294-1583 or Therese Carter at Coosa River Adventures to volunteer.
